The AS-GT mount includes a port for connecting the hand control and a
port for connecting an autoguider. The NexStar SE and SLT mounts include a
port for the hand control and an "Aux" port. The LCM mount
has only a single port for the hand control. In order to upgrade the
motor control firmware in the mount, you need a "PC Port" or hand
control version 4.13 or higher. A PC Port can also be used with
NexRemote to completely replace the physical hand control. For
more on the ports on the mount, see Odds and Ends for your scope.
For more upgrading firmware, read
here.
One way to get this port is to purchase Celestron's Auxiliary Port
Accessory Kit (part number 93965). This device provides additional
ports (useful for example to connect the GPS module) but some consider it
unnecessary and expensive if they only want to upgrade the firmware or
replace the hand control with NexRemote.
Ken Hutchinson has put together a document on building a PC Port adapter
that connects to the hand control or Aux ports and provides just the PC Port.
