Accurate Centering of Alignment Stars

A good alignment requires accurate centering of the two alignment stars.  But getting a star accurately centered in the field of view can be a little difficult without a cross-hair eyepiece.  A simple trick makes it easy.  After the alignment star is clearly in the field of view, defocus the image.  The star becomes a large disk and is much easier to center.  Also, be sure your final movements to center the star are in the same direction as the final movements of the goto slew.
