The 'i' Series mount (NexStar 5i, 8i and 8i Special Edition) includes a port for connecting the hand control, an Aux port and a port for connecting an autoguider.  In order to upgrade the motor control firmware in the mount (if Celestron makes new firmware available), you need a "PC Port" or hand control version 4.13 or higher.  A PC Port can also be used with NexRemote to completely replace the physical hand control.  For more on the ports on the mount, read here.  For more upgrading firmware, read here

One way to get this port is to purchase Celestron's Auxiliary Port Accessory Kit (part number 93965).  This device provides additional ports but some consider it unnecessary and expensive if they only want to run NexRemote with the hand control.  Matthias Bopp has put together a document on building a PC Port adapter that connects to the Aux or hand control port and provides just the PC Port.  Click here for the document in Adobe Acrobat format - visit www.adobe.com if you need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Thanks Matthias!
