Hand Control USB Cable

To allow an external computer to communicate with your scope, one option is to connect to the USB port on the bottom of the NexStar/StarSense hand control.  (Note that hand controls manufactured before April 2016 have an RS-232 port which looks like a phone jack and require an RS-232 cable - see this page for more information.)

This cable is also used to update the firmware in the hand control, motor control (mount) and StarSense camera.

The USB port on the current NexStar and StarSense hand controls uses a mini-B connector.  The cable required to connect from a laptop/desktop computer to the USB port on the hand control is readily available from many online sources and can also be found locally, particularly in a camera shop.  The easiest way to ensure you get the right cable is to search for a cable to be used with a Canon Rebel digital SLR camera.
